My name is Nam-Anh, but some people call me Mia. I am learning to play the violin and double bass. I enjoy writing in my free time. I speak English and Vietnamese, but I am studying Spanish. My dream is to connect people through things like music, language, and stories.
A violin student since 2018, I study under the instruction of Nina Bodnar. I am also a part of the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, conducted by Dr. Daniel Gee. In the past, I have participated in other levels of the Santa Barbara Youth Ensembles, Junior Chamber Music, and Santa Barbara Strings.
Ever since I first became a part of La Colima Junior High’s orchestra in 2022, I have found a great love for the double bass. Since then, I have been a part of the Santa Barbara Youth Ensembles under the guidance of Marisa McLeod, and am currently in the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The moment I could adequately write English, I became fascinated by the world of words out there. I then continuously produced novels, novellas, short stories, poems, plays, and so much more, ever striving to find my voice in writing, and continue to do so now. I aim to publish a few of my works someday.
Similar to my love for English writing, I am also fascinated by language and the way it connects people and allows them to express themselves. I am currently solidly bilingual in English and Vietnamese, and am learning Spanish. I have previously taken Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in junior high, and continue Spanish 3 through the Homeschool Spanish Academy.
I have been accepted and enrolled into Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA)! This program at Dos Pueblos Senior High School teaches students the basics of engineering through project-based learning in four different areas - Physics, Machine Workshop, Visual Art, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD). My DPEA portfolio website is in progress, but you can check it out below.

I was an intern during WYP's summer program, during which I practiced storytelling and helped connect children to nature.
I helped set up and clean up Burkdoll Farm's stall at farmers' markets, helped stock the crates, and helped pass out samples.
I became an exhibit interpreter at the Sea Center, where I operated different exhibits, taught visitors about our local marine ecosystem, and learned my share of marine biology.
I volunteered as a counselor-in-training (CIT) during summer camp, in which I guided young children (about three to five years old) as they explored nature.
I was a counselor-in-training (CIT) for two years in this annual summer camp, where I supervised and helped elementary school students in their learning of STEM concepts.
I volunteer as a referee and oversaw young soccer players' matches while enforcing safety and the laws of the game.
As the secretary representing freshmen in the student government, I help plan, as well as set up, school events such as football PGPs, dances, homecoming, lunchtime activities, spirit days, and more.
I was a volunteer helping set up the Music Van program, in which elementary school students tried out different instruments of the orchestra speed-dating-style to see which they would like to try in their music class.
I was a volunteer helping cook a free nutritional meal for people and families living in the local transition house.
Me and my family were volunteers picking fruit for the local Food Bank to use.
I learned English seemingly from exposure in kindergarten and first grade. I now immensely enjoy writing and reading it, and am fluent in all areas.
My first language, I am fluent in Vietnamese and use it daily with my family.
From classes during junior high to online classes now, I enjoy learning Spanish and hope to use it during vacation one day.
